Remote Training FAQs

About Remote Training
How does remote training work?

With remote training, also known as personalized audio web training, you speak with a trainer via a conference call while watching a personalized presentation on the web. Because the training is customized, only attendees from your firm can participate. During the class, anyone from your firm can ask questions. The trainer's job is to address the specific needs of your firm, so the training is a highly interactive process.

The web presentation uses a live Schwab Performance Technologies program with sample data that is controlled by the trainer. In some cases, the trainer might also use a PowerPoint presentation or show documents over the Web. (All supporting documents are emailed to the attendees prior to the training date.)

Why should I pay for remote training when 1-800 technical support is available?
Remote training provides the benefit of an experienced trainer who is well versed in the given topic area. If you have a lot of questions on a specific topic or need to spend extensive time training on one area, then the personalization available with remote training is probably the best option.

Please note that our technical support team is not available for extensive training. However, to address one or two questions about a given area, technical support might be more appropriate.
What topics are covered in remote training?
You can request training to cover the basics of PortfolioCenter, or you can create a custom-tailored class about a topic that is of interest to you. All areas of our products can be covered in remote training.
How do I know if I should use remote training sessions or have onsite consulting?
You should consider the number of people in your office that desire training, the amount of material to cover, and your comfort with remote web training compared to in person consultation. Our staff can discuss both options with you.
What sort of Web presentation will I be seeing?
Your instructor uses live desktop sharing to demonstrate the use of the software to you. Everything the instructor does on his/her computer is displayed in your Web browser.
Computer Requirements
Does my computer need to have audio capabilities to participate?
No. Your Web browser is used only for the visual part of the class. The instructor calls you for the audio portion of the class.
What do I need to do to prepare for the remote training class?
Please review the details provided in Preparing for Class to make sure that your Web browser and computer resolution are appropriately configured. We recommend that you follow these steps at least one day prior to your scheduled remote training session.
Cost and Scheduling
How much does remote training cost?
Remote training is $200 per hour. Sessions are typically scheduled as a one hour class.
When are the classes offered?
We are fairly flexible in scheduling remote training. Time slots for classes are available between 9:00-11:00 am and 3:00-5:00 pm Eastern time, Monday through Friday. If you have specific time requirements outside of these time slots, our staff may be able to meet your scheduling needs.

Important:
Remote training classes are not conducted during our quarter-end periods (first two weeks of January, April, July, October).
How far in advance should classes be scheduled?
We typically require two-weeks notice to schedule any remote training classes, or four weeks around quarter-end. Classes can be scheduled up to 3 months in advance.

Note: Highly customized classes may require longer than two weeks for scheduling.
