Regional Training FAQs

About Regional Training
How does regional training work?
Regional training, also known as hands-on training, is a series of classes taught in computer labs where you can immediately put new techniques into practice at a computer workstation. We are excited to offer this type of in-depth training in an environment where you can learn from an experienced instructor and your peers.
What version of PortfolioCenter is taught?
We will train you on the capabilities of the most recent version of PortfolioCenter. From time to time, an updated version of PortfolioCenter may have been released that has not yet been reflected in the training manuals and sample database. Our instructor will note any changes in functionality during the class.
Should I attend all three days of training?

By attending all three days, you gain extensive knowledge of all aspects of PortfolioCenter. Not everyone uses every part of the program, but it is helpful to be exposed to all the available options. Even veteran users comment that they are excited to find features they did not know existed.

Please read the descriptions of each day's agenda to determine whether it is appropriate for you to attend one, two, or all three days. You will be the best judge of the suitability based on your background and job responsibilities.

Who teaches the classes?
The classes are taught by Doug Holden, an experienced professional trainer who has trained well over a thousand clients since 1995. Doug is also a registered investment advisor and holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. As a sole practitioner, he has used Centerpiece and PortfolioCenter for more than 12 years to manage his own independent fee-only practice in Raleigh, NC.

Doug holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Millersville University in Pennsylvania. His background includes 10 years as a public school teacher, and over 20 years in the financial services industry. You will benefit from Doug's comprehensive knowledge of PortfolioCenter, and the pragmatic approach he brings to the classroom, based on extensive first-hand experience using PortfolioCenter in practice.
Is there a limit to the class size?
Yes, each class is limited to 24 students. Capacity is limited to the maximum number of computers available in the room. There may be fewer than 24 seats available at some facilities.
Is there time for questions during class?
Absolutely. There is plenty of time built into each day for your questions.
What do I need to bring to class?
The only thing you need is a pen or pencil. You will receive a training manual each day that has plenty of room for notes.
Can I get the trainer to work with my data during class?
No. You should not bring your laptop to class because the trainer will not be able to troubleshoot your particular data. If you have specific questions about your data, licensed users can get assistance from Technical Support at (800) 528-9595.
