Working with SQL
Compare the different versions of Microsoft SQL Server that our products support and use the resources to maintain your SQL Server database environment.
Which Version?
Deciding which version of SQL to install requires some careful considerations. All versions have their benefits and limitations, as shown by a comparison of their key characteristics in the table below:
| Characteristic | SQL Server 2005 SP2 Express | SQL Server 2005 | SQL Server 2000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Database Size | 4 Gigabytes | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Number of Concurrent Users/Processes | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Number of processors | 1 | 1-4 | 1-4 |
| Maximum Amount of RAM used | 1 Gigabyte | Same as operating system |
2 Gigabytes |
| PortfolioCenter Versions | 4.26 or later | 4.26 or later | 4.40 or earlier |

Important:
- The upgrade to PortfolioCenter 4.40 automatically upgrades clients using MSDE to SQL Server 2005 SP2 Express, which has a 4 GB database capacity, to better support your firm's growth.
- As of PortfolioCenter 4.40, we have retired support for MSDE.
- Support for SQL Server 2000 will be retired with the next release of PortfolioCenter, so if you need SQL Server, please use SQL Server 2005 SP2.
